AFFEN: A.F.F.E.N – LAST LULLABY

affenid:

Soft and pretty

That’s the way she knows me

She gives me all her life

All she ever said

Was to live my life in happiness

She hates to see me sad

“Sleep little angel, rest your tired soul”

“Sleep little angel, tommorow your day begin”

You’re my brightest sky

On my last lullaby

A.F.F.E.N – HOME

affenid:

The break of dawn

Carried me to the memories

That reminds me the beauty

Of glorious symphony.

And I recall

Wishing I was home

To the place where i’ll finally see

All the things that i missed

To the land of my hopes and my dreams

I’ll be…

Fly away

Drift away

I’m waiting to see

For the dreams

I long to see

Hey, i’ll be home

Photographic Collages Suspended in Plexiglas

Auckland-based artist Peter Madden gleans found images from old encyclopedias, back issues of National Geographic, and nature books to create his dense and nearly psychedelic collages suspended in perspex, also known as ‘safety glass’. Of his work Madden says “I consider myself a ‘Sculptographer’; a ‘post-conceptual photographer’. A mediator between genres and dimensions, between you, the other and I. I suppose I am an altogether different collagist, maybe a collagist of difference.” To see much more of his three dimensional work, check out this gallery. RUWATAN CEREMONY DREADLOCKS KIDS OF DIENG PLATEAU

RUWATAN CEREMONY DREADLOCKS KIDS OF DIENG PLATEAU

by : Babam Bramaditia

Dieng Plateau is a tourist area in the center of the district Banjarnegara and Wonosobo regency, Central Java Province. Administratively, the village includes Dieng Dieng Kulon, District Batur, and Dieng Wetan Festival, District Kejajar, Wonosobo district. This region altitude 2088 meters above sea level. No wonder, the temperature was quite cold, which is about 10-20 Celcius . Even in the dry season, this area can reach 0 Celcius in the morning.
Dieng’s name has its own history. As was quoted by the author of www.wisatamelayu.com,
Dieng’s name comes from the combination of two words in Sanskrit, is the meaning of the word mountain and hyang Khayangan, which means the abode of the gods and goddesses. When combined, the name Dieng meaning mountain abode of the gods and goddesses. But there are other sources which states, Dieng derived from the Javanese, the edi which means beautiful / beautiful and the Aeng which means weird. So dieng means a beautiful place and a rarity.

Dieng is more famous for their stunning natural attractions, such as Dieng Temple, Telaga warna, Canderadimuka Crater. But there is a culture that isn’t less interesting in the cold temperate region. In Dieng area, famous for it’s culture of dreadlocks cutting hair or commonly called Ruwatan ceremony. These cultures have been known even to foreign countries. No wonder, if a native of Dieng are doing this ritual, was able to invite many visitors come, both from domestic and abroad.

Indeed, the native Dieng children has its own uniqueness. Since birth, their hair is tacky or dreadlocks. Even in matanews.com mention that according to the holder of dieng culture, Mbah Naryono (60 years) believe that dreadlocks kids are the entrusted bajang child of Kyai Kolodete (figures are believed to open the Dieng plateau region).
Based on the confidence of local people, the dreads can bring distress or bad luck. Therefore, they must cut or shaved that dreadlocks. However, the shaved process isn’t that easy. It must go through the ritual or ceremonial rites commonly called Ruwatan. That said, if the shaving of the dreads done without due process Ruwatan ceremony, the dreads will grow back, but if through the process Ruwatan, tacky hair will not grow again until the child is growing up. Ruwatan, Ruwat word itself comes from, which means throwing. So it is expected after Ruwatan, bad things that were previously owned by the child becomes lost and turned around to bring luck and fortune to the child.
The ceremony itself is conducted by weton (day of birth of the child). While the ceremony is calculated based on neptu (the birth of a child who will receive a ceremonial Ruwatan). This ritual should be performed as requested by the child. So that parents don’t force the child to shave his dreads before the child’s wishes. Besides the ceremony was held according to the ability of funds from their parents. Because funding for Ruwatan isn’t cheap. This is because, in Ruwatan ceremony, the children usually ask a request. And the request should be realized by their parents, if not will bring disaster to them.

The Ritual Processions of Ruwatan

in performing the ceremony Ruwatan, required special preparation such as offering objects. The offerings consist of rice cone, ingkung ayam (whole large chicken), scissors, bowls and water containing the flower setaman, rice, 2 pieces of money, umbrellas, snacks and 15 kinds of drinks, such as sweet and bitter coffee, sweet and bitter tea, basil, milk, millet and demand that the child will get Ruwat.
The event opened with speeches by one of the executors of the ceremony. After speeches, children who will be shaved brought to Maerokoco wells located in the Dieng temple complex. when he got there the shaman began to wash the tacky hair while accompanied by sounds of the Gamelan. Water used by the shaman is taken from a spring which is considered auspicious in the Dieng Plateau, which is in the Maerokoco wells.
Then after the bath, the offering, the offering was prepared. The offerings usually has its own meaning. For example, white rice cone that is attached to the fruit. Rice showed the head, while the fruits show their dreadlocks. And the offerings are placed around the Arjuna Temple. and children receiving ruwat brought to the temple, but their parents have to carry them to the Arjuna Temple.
After all the offerings for the ceremony was complete, then the shaman began to pray in an incense. after that the shaman is directly bloat the child’s head to be shaved with incense smoke that has been given prayer before. Next the shaman be allowed to cut the child dreads. Shave the process by entering the ring is considered to have magical powers to each strand of hair and shaved dreadlocks one by one. After the shaman finished cutting their dreadlocks, the hair is wrapped with white cloth or shroud. after wrapped, washed away in Telaga Warna or rivers in Dieng. after dreads are washed away into rivers or into Telaga Warna, then this is the end of shaving dreads Ruwatan Ceremony prossession.
To make it more attractive for tourists, tacky hair shaving ritual ceremony is packaged in the Dieng Culture Festival. Local government, the Department of Tourism and Culture Festival to initiate and conduct the event Dieng Culture Festival. It is intended to introduce more Dieng culture to the general public, both domestically and abroad. However, in Dieng Culture Festival isn’t only displays the ritual shaving of the dreads, but there are also exhibits superior products Dieng Plateau, such as cooking and crafts. In addition, to further enliven the event, also diselenggarakn Performing Arts and Culture. Dieng has a diversity of art and culture are unique and distinctive Banjarnegara Dieng, such as masks dance, Rampak, warok, and much more.
Currently, Dieng is already widely known by tourists. Quite often tourists took a visit to Dieng to see the natural wonders that are there. But on the other hand, the Dieng Plateau has a priceless cultural heritage. Culture is not only to be saved, but we have maintained and preserved. Because it is the legacy of our generation who embellish cultures in Indonesia. it’s better still if we could make that culture as an interesting and have more value, which is making it a tourist attraction.
